[영어표현] the in thing - 유행을 영어로...

안녕하세요?

 

 오늘은 "요즘 ~ 하는게 유행이야/~가 핫해~"등 어떤게 유행이다..라고 표현할 때 쓸 수 있는 영어표현, the in thing에 대해서 알아보도록 하겠습니다.

 

 먼저 영영사전에는 The in thing을 어떻게 풀이를 해놨는지 한번 보실까요?

 

 

 

 the (in) thing : 유행인

- to be very fashionable at the moment

- the newest, most recent, or most current trend, fashion or style

- that which is currently (and usually temporarily) fashionable or trendy

- the in thing (to do) - the fashionable thing to do

 

the in thing에서 사이에 있는 in은 생략 가능합니다.  마지막 풀이에 나온것처럼 the in thing to to do...이렇게 한 뭉치로 외워서 응용하셔도 좋을 것 같습니다. 의미는 "최신 유행하는" 정도로 보면 되겠죠? ^^

- Bob은 너무 아재스타일이야. 유행은 전혀 안따라해 

Wearing oversized clothes is the thing these days
-  Oversized옷 입는게 요즘 유행이야.

Van and sports utility vehicles have been the in thing for some time now

-  Van이나 SUV는 오랫동안 인기를 누리고 있어

A : Why are you wearing like that?
B : Are you kidding? It's the in thing now!

 

 

 

 유사표현

 

유사표현으로는 Catch on이 있습니다.

Catch on : to become fashionable or popular

- I wonder if the game will ever catch on with young people.
- The idea has been around for ages without catching on
